Course Description

In this new millennium you need to be comfortable with computers – this class will get you there

This is the Age of Information – and every one of us needs (deserves!) to know how to use technology to manage and process information. Whether you intend to pursue systems management or project management or anything in between, you need to know the basics of computers and how to leverage their possibilities.

This course will guide you through your CPU and core software capabilities, helping you understand the difference between operating systems, computer languages, types of networks and network applications. It will teach you about input and output devices (cameras, monitors, printers), database management systems, storage and multimedia. It will also teach you how to use web-based search engines as a research tool, parse the web experience and understand what makes a compelling web site. Information exchange in this course will be hands on and up-to-the moment, allowing you to download and listen to lectures via podcasting.
