Program Details

The FBI reported that billions of dollars are lost every year due to cybercrime, and cyber security has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in the technology industry. This minor focuses on the concern over privacy and security of digital information and will train you to secure and protect organization systems, defend against hackers, and trap a cyber-criminal. Skills learned in this minor are indispensable to a potential employer and applicable to any field or discipline.

Minor Requirements

Minimum units: 18 (Five core courses and one elective)

Required courses:
All of the following courses (12 units):

  • ITP 125 – From Hackers to CEOs; An Introduction to Information Security (2 units)
  • ITP 325 – Ethical Hacking and Systems Defense (3 units)
  • ITP 357 – Enterprise Network Design (3 units)
  • ITP 370 – Information Security Management (3 units)
  • ITP 375 – Digital Forensics (3 units)

Prerequisite notes:
* Students must take ITP 125 prior to taking ITP 325, ITP 357, ITP 375, or ITP 370.

Electives:
Choose one course for a minimum of 4 units:

• ITP 425 – Web Application Security
• ITP 457 – Network Security
• ITP 475 – Advanced Digital Forensics

Prerequisite notes:
* Students must take ITP 325 prior to taking ITP 425.
* Students must take ITP 357 prior to taking ITP 457.
* Students must take ITP 375 prior to taking ITP 475.

Important Minor Catalogue Rules:

Students must take at least 16 units that are unique to the minor (i.e. not required to fulfill the student’s major, another minor, or general education requirements). 

Specialization Requirements

Specializations are a great alternative for students who are interested in gaining experience in a subject area but do not have space in their schedule to complete a full minor program. While specializations are not a formal part of a degree program, certificates are available upon completion of required coursework.
