Program Details

The Minor in Innovation: The Digital Entrepreneur is jointly sponsored by the Information Technology Program in the Viterbi School of Engineering and the Lloyd Greif Center for Entrepreneurial Studies in the Marshall School of Business. If you have always been someone with a vision and a passion for creating your own projects, this is the minor for you. This minor is designed for students from a range of backgrounds who are interested in starting their own business, working for start-up companies, or learning to “think digitally.” Students will learn to create business models, growth hacking skills, agile product development, and gain real-world experience in a team-based environment. This intimate minor allows you to work on your business while at school with access to USC’s instructors, incubators, and resources.

Minor Requirements

Minimum units: 21 (Six core courses and two units of elective credit)

Required courses:
All of the following courses (15 units):

• BUAD 301 – Technology Entrepreneurship (3 units)
• BAEP 452 – Feasibility Analysis (4 Units)*
• ITP 466 – Building the High-Tech Startup (4 Units)
• ITP 476 – Technologies for Interactive Marketing (4 Units)

Required capstone courses. Must be taken in the same semester. Spring only. (4 units total):

• ITP 496 – The Digital Startup Launchpad (2 Units)
• BAEP 496 – The Digital Startup Launchpad (2 Units)

Prerequisite notes:
* Students must take BUAD 301 prior to taking BAEP 452.
* Students must take all 4 required courses prior to co-enrolling in ITP 496 and BAEP 496.

Must complete a minimum of 2 units:
(Note: Marshall students need 6 units of elective credit to reach 16 unique units for the minor)

IMPORTANT MINOR CATALOGUE RULES:
Students must take at least 16 units that are unique to the minor (i.e. not required to fulfill the student’s major, another minor, or general education requirements).

Specialization Requirements

Specializations are a great alternative for students who are interested in gaining experience in a subject area but do not have space in their schedule to complete a full minor program. While specializations are not a formal part of a degree program, certificates are available upon completion of required coursework.

Minimum units: 11 (Two core course plus a minimum of 3 units of elective credit)
